Mural Community Celebration – October 25 2018

The York Eglinton BIA invites you to celebrate our newest Community Mural, by artist Ryan Smeeton on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at 1:00 pm.
The piece, titled “Together, We Grow”, recognizes the area’s access to many green spaces, as well as its rich cultural diversity- with a long history of settlers coming from the Caribbean, South America and and Europe among other parts of the globe.
The celebration will showcase local talent, with a band from the St. Thomas Aquinas School, local students will perform spoken word pieces, and  refreshments will be provided from restaurants in the area – giving attendees a taste of the the neighbourhood. The York Eglinton BIA invites the public to join in the festivities as its celebrates this powerful piece of art. The event is free and open to the public.

The artist chose to represent this connection to nature by having a single figure of indistinguishable origin interacting with flowers. Flowers are not only symbols of beauty, but can also represent growth and positive change and a celebration of life – something that many community members felt was an important message to convey.
